Sculptra® Aesthetic Facial Injectable

Sculptra® Aesthetic injectable is designed to reverse signs of facial fat loss associated with aging. By restoring collagen, which decreases over time, it fills shallow-to-deep wrinkles and folds such as nasolabial folds (from the sides of the nose to the corners of the mouth). Sculptra is not intended for use in the eye or lip areas.

What is Sculptra Aesthetic?

The main component of Sculptra Aesthetic is poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA), a safe, long-lasting, biocompatible, and biodegradable synthetic substance. PLLA has been used for over 20 years in surgical products, including dissolvable sutures and soft-tissue implants.

Treatment and Results

Sculptra Aesthetic injections are typically administered in a series of up to 4 sessions, spaced 3 weeks apart. The collagen produced smooths lines and adds volume to the skin. Results vary, but clinical studies show effects lasting up to 2 years in most patients.

Side Effects

Common side effects include localized bleeding, tenderness, discomfort, redness, bruising, and swelling, usually resolving within a few days. According to Valeant Aesthetics, other possible side effects include small lumps under the skin, sometimes noticeable when pressing the treated area. Larger lumps, with or without inflammation or skin discoloration, have also been reported.
